UAE is well-known for its innovative initiatives to keep the residents healthy and active at all times. Recently, the Government of Dubai has declared that restaurants, cafes, and even cafeterias will have to declare the calorie content on the menu, for all the food items.
This new rule will be applicable to eateries with more than 5 branches, starting November 2019. However, hotels, catering establishments, and other eateries will participate in the following, starting January 2020. As per Dawoud Al Hajri, Director general of Dubai Municipality, the reason behind this is for “to oblige food establishments to be fully transparent in declaring calories on all foods to give consumers the ability to choose food that suits their health status. It is an innovative program of Dubai Municipality and through it the Municipality will encourage restaurants to provide healthy and tasty meals to consumers to achieve Dubai Municipality’s vision of developing a happy and sustainable city,”
We hope this initiative helps both establishments and diners in Dubai, to serve and eat better respectively.
